Overview of The Perfect Cut
"Finally, he lifted his t-shirt and pressed the flat edge of the razor aganist soft skin.Cold comfort. The tight ball of anticipation that had been festering in his gut all day began to uncoil like a rattlesnake poised to strike. He moved slowly, methodically, and when he could wait no longer, he ran the steal blade with unhurried precision across his taut stomach....the cutting didnt hurt. If only it did... A perfect cut, Michelle whispered in his ear. He shivered as her cold breath touched his skin. Just the way i showed you..."
Bryan is a teenager who is currently in grade 12 that rarely attends to his classes even though he is a very intelligent kid. He feels its a waste of time becasue he can learn something in a day where it takes others a week. On the other hand, his sister named Michelle had just recently past away but instead of feeling anger or grief he feels numb. Nothing matters anymore except for the relief he feels when he cuts himslef, it gives him a "confirmation of exsistance." I believe that the death of Michelle had impacted Bryan the most becasue she was his role model that he always aspried to be. Michelle was a unique individual, she didnt care what anyone thought, and she was going to do what ever she wanted whenever she wanted. Even though Michelle was his role model she didnt always teach him positive things. When they were young Bryan would go into her room for guitar lessons, but this particular day he found her in the bathroom cutting herself and he was absolutley appalled and she told him that "shit happens and people deal with it differently." He still didnt undertsand how cutting yourslef could make you feel better, but he fully understood it now. After michelles death the family began to fall apart, Bryan picked up a few bad habits, he began to drink excessively, he smoked cigarettes, and cut himself frequently. He became extremely interested in death he felt that to come into terms with death, one needs to understand it, he despised odd numbers becasue of the date his sister died. Additionally, his mother became and alcholic, and his father blanks out everyone and locks himself into his den to watch news. At this time Bryan has blocked out eveyone from his life/memory except for Michelle who tends to visit him from time to time.
Do you think that Bryan will ever be able to live a normal life?
Or will hurt himself to the point of death?

I think that Bryan will continue to hurt him self for a while, but then something will happen to him and he'll decide become a better person and live a normal life. Maybe he'll end up talking and helping others with similar problems that he had.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all great intro! Way to go! You caught my attention right off the bat and wanted to know more of whats wrong with this kid. I think Bryan needs to find closure but hes yet to do so and for now he will continue to hurt himself and maybe if its too late and he doesnt find the thing that opens his eyes he could come to the point of killiong himself.
ReplyDeleteI think that Bryan could stop hurting himself and feeling this way if he decided to get some help with his problems. The loss of his sister will always be a big part of his life and for the rest of his life he will have times that he feels very upset about his loss. Despite the fact that it will always hurt for him to think about his sister i think that if he gets help that he will be able to deal with it in a better way then cutting himself to get rid of the pain.
ReplyDeleteI think that Bryan will live a normal life, but he needs someone like a guide or a teacher to help him get out of the mess he's in. If you have someone help you get throught it like therapy. I hope that he does come through.
ReplyDeleteI've never really understood the whole purpose of cutting. For Bryan, it is a release of pain, and yet he's causing pain for himself. Does he feel guilty that he's alive and his sister is not? like Cheryl said, I hope that he finds someone that he trusts and can talk to about his problems.
ReplyDeletei think that bryan will come through this with help of some friends or it might even be that he just gets wors and wors and then the book will show what happend to his frineds and family. you know to prevent the readers cutting themselves
ReplyDeleteMan your book sounds intense.... I think that Bryon will push these habbits right to the edge of near death, then realize that killing himself wont help himself or his parents of getting over his dead sister?
ReplyDeleteI feel that Bryan will hurt himself more and more, and that unless someone can talk to him or even just try to get to him, it will continue and death will occur. I also think that with Michelle visiting him from time to time she could possibly talk to him and he will understand that it isnt the right way to solve problems but then again she did do the same thing. I believe that there is a little bit of hope that he will possibly stop because everyone has the conscience inside them that tells them right from wrong, he is just surpressing his but that can always change.
